Milton Keynes Bucks Baseball Club

MK Bucks @ Mildenhall Bulldogs 19th April

MK Bucks 6 — 14 Mildenhall

MK Bucks 9 — 19 Mildenhall

The season opener saw the Bucks face newcomers to the Midlands League, made up primarily of American Military personnel, this was always going to be a tough test for MK.

The day was a beautiful, crisp & breezy one and the perfect day to start the season.

Having said that, the early season colly-wobbles that have historically dogged the Bucks soon manifested themselves with fielding errors prevailing from even the most seasoned players.

Add to this some poor hitting from the entire side and the result was inevitable, you cannot win if you don’t hit or field.

MK Bucks @ Alconbury Braves 26th April

MK Bucks 7 — 9 Alconbury

MK Bucks 0 — 10 Alconbury

This fixture saw the Bucks back at RAF Feltwell in Norfolk, the scene of last weeks poor performance, only this time was to play another team of primarily of American Military personnel.

Game 1 started out pretty neck and neck with the Bucks leading for a good part of the early innings, but the customary one bad inning reared it’s ugly head and the Braves killed us.

The bats were not much, if at all any livelier than they were last week, and the fielding and throwing errors continued into the second game and the Brave tattooed us for a 10-0 slaughter after 5 innings.

Alconbury Braves @ MK Bucks 3rd May

MK Bucks 8 — 18 Alconbury

The Bucks struggled to get some early season momentum together as they slipped to an early 5-0 deficit on the 1st home game of 2009.

There were some signs of recovery however, the bats being somewhat more productive, and a little more baseball common sense prevailing as well as a reduction in fielding errors.

The Bucks are still struggling in the pitching department as there are issues with shoulders and control that are dogging the main staff. Geoff Finning took the hill following early departures by both Ernie Ayala and Ross Barnes, and turned in a more competent performance, throwing strikes consistently.

The Braves for their part, bought their bats and again peppered the Bucks all over the field with some timely & affective hitting, as well as some competent fielding and throwing, an area where the Bucks need to improve.

MK Bucks @ Birmingham Mapleleafs 10th May

MK Bucks 10 — 9 Mapleleafs

The Bucks hung on after nine tough innings to take a 1 run victory, their 1st of the season. A hard fought contest that hopefully sees the tide turn for the Bucks and the wins start to roll in.
